How do I connect Ad Badger to Claude or ChatGPT?

Connect Ad Badger to Claude or ChatGPT and you can simply ask about your Amazon Ads data in plain English. "Which of my campaigns had the highest ACOS last month?" The Badger goes digging and comes back with an answer pulled from your own account.

The connection is read-only. Honey badgers are famously fearless. This one is famously well behaved: Claude and ChatGPT can look at your advertising data all they like, but they cannot change your bids, adjust your budgets, pause anything, or delete anything.

Setup takes about five minutes, and you only do it once. Then the Badger stays put.

Before you start

You'll need:

  • An Ad Badger account. This works on every Ad Badger plan, free trials included.
  • At least one Amazon Ads account connected in Ad Badger. If you haven't connected one yet, do that first. Even a badger can't dig up data that isn't there.
  • A Claude or ChatGPT account that supports custom connectors. See the notes in each section below.

You do not need Amazon API keys, AWS credentials, or a developer account.

The address you'll need

Both Claude and ChatGPT ask for the same address:

https://ai.adbadger.com/mcp/ads

Copy it exactly, including the /mcp/ads on the end. The Badger is particular about its address. Entering just ai.adbadger.com is the single most common reason setup fails.

Connect Claude

Claude is Anthropic's product, not ours. We don't control how it looks or works, and these steps can change at any time without notice. The instructions below match the Claude desktop app as of the last time we checked. If what you see on your screen doesn't match, always go by Anthropic's own documentation. It's the authority, and it's kept current: Get started with custom connectors using remote MCP. That guide is also where to check whether your Claude plan supports custom connectors.

  1. Open your profile menu and choose Settings. Claude's profile menu open, with Settings at the top of the list.

  2. At the bottom of the left sidebar, click Customize. Claude's Settings window. Customize sits on its own at the very bottom of the left sidebar, below the Desktop app section.

  3. Choose Connectors. The Customize panel, with Skills, Connectors and Plugins in the left sidebar and Connectors selected. Discover and Add buttons sit at the top right.

  4. Click Add in the top right. (Not Discover. That's Claude's directory of pre-built connectors, and Ad Badger isn't listed there.) The Add button at the top right of the Connectors panel, which opens the Add custom connector dialog.

  5. Fill in the two fields:

    • Name: Ad Badger
    • Remote MCP server URL: https://ai.adbadger.com/mcp/ads

  7. The next screen shows Authentication and OAuth client options. This is the one spot where setup usually goes sideways, so read the note below before you touch anything. Leave them exactly as they are. Claude inspects our server and pre-selects the right settings for you. They're the ones marked Detected.

    Don't switch to "Use Anthropic's hosted client metadata," even though it's marked Recommended. Ad Badger doesn't use that method, and choosing it will stop the connection from working. The correct options are the pre-selected ones: Always required and No client ID — register one automatically. The same goes for anything under Advanced: the transport setting is filled in from the address automatically. The Authentication and OAuth client screen.   1. Click Add.

  2. An Ad Badger sign-in screen appears. Sign in with your normal Ad Badger email and password. The Ad Badger sign-in screen, asking for your email address and password.

  3. Check that the consent screen says read-only, then approve it.

  4. You'll see "Checking connection…" briefly, and then Ad Badger appears in your connectors list. That's it. A Checking connection progress screen with the Ad Badger badger logo.

On Claude for web, the path is the same: Customize → Connectors → Add.

On a Team or Enterprise plan, you may not see an Add button at all. Custom connectors are usually added once for the whole organization by an owner, under Organization settings → Connectors. If you can't add it yourself, ask whoever administers your Claude workspace.

Connect ChatGPT

ChatGPT is OpenAI's product, not ours. We don't control it, and these screens change often. OpenAI describes this area as still rolling out, and says functionality, UI and permissions may change as they iterate. If what you see doesn't match what's written here, go by OpenAI's own guide: Developer mode and MCP apps in ChatGPT. That's also the place to check whether your ChatGPT plan supports this, since it varies and changes.

1. Turn on Developer mode

Go to Settings → Security and login and switch on Developer mode. ChatGPT's Security and login settings, with the Developer mode toggle switched on and marked ELEVATED RISK.

You'll see OpenAI label this ELEVATED RISK, warning that it "allows you to add unverified connectors that could modify or erase data permanently." That warning is about developer mode in general, not about Ad Badger specifically. It applies to any connector OpenAI hasn't reviewed. The Ad Badger connection is read-only: it cannot modify or erase anything in your account.

Depending on your plan, Developer mode may sit elsewhere: under Settings → Plugins, or in workspace/admin settings if you're on a Business or Enterprise account, where an administrator may need to enable it for you. 2. Create the connector

  1. Go to Settings → Plugins and click the + button to open New Plugin. The empty New Plugin dialog with fields for Name, Description, Connection, and Authentication, and a warning that custom MCP servers introduce risk.

  2. Name: Ad Badger (an Icon and Description are optional, so skip them)

  3. Connection: leave the toggle on Server URL (not Tunnel) and enter: https://ai.adbadger.com/mcp/ads

  4. Authentication: choose OAuth.

  5. Leave Advanced OAuth settings alone. ChatGPT reads the correct settings from our server once you've entered the address. If you open that panel, you'll see Registration method set to Dynamic Client Registration (DCR). That's right, and there's nothing to change.

    You may also see a note reading "CIMD is unavailable because the server did not advertise CIMD support." That's expected and harmless. CIMD is a different sign-in method that Ad Badger doesn't use. ChatGPT is telling you it noticed, and has already picked the right one.   6. Tick "I understand and want to continue." The text beside it says OpenAI hasn't reviewed this MCP server. That's true of every connector that isn't in their reviewed list, including ours.

  7. Click Create.

3. Sign in

  1. A screen appears headed Add Ad Badger to ChatGPT. Click Sign in with Ad Badger. The Add Ad Badger to ChatGPT screen with a Sign in with Ad Badger button, and notes about permissions and data control.

  3. Check that the consent screen says read-only, then approve it.

4. Use it

Open a new chat, type @, and pick Ad Badger to bring it into the conversation.

Whichever one you connected, start here:

Which Amazon Ads profiles do I have connected in Ad Badger?

Ask this first. It points the Badger at the right burrow. Every other question needs to know which advertising account you mean, and this is also how a phrase like "my UK account" gets matched to the right one. If this returns your profiles, you're connected properly.

If it doesn't connect

None of this is fatal. Badgers are hard to discourage.

"Couldn't connect" or the address is rejected. Check you entered the full address including /mcp/ads, not just ai.adbadger.com.

"Subscription is not active." Your Ad Badger account doesn't currently have an active plan or trial. Contact support and we'll sort it out with you.

No profiles come back. Your Amazon Ads account may not be connected inside Ad Badger yet. Check that first, then try again.

You can't find Connectors, or there's no Add button. In Claude, Connectors sits under Customize, not in the main Settings list. If there's still no Add button, you're likely on a Team or Enterprise plan where an owner adds connectors for everyone.

In ChatGPT, it fails before you ever see a login screen. That's the connector being created, not your Ad Badger login. Double-check the address and that Authentication is set to OAuth.

You changed one of the OAuth options and now it won't connect. Remove the connector and add it again, leaving the pre-selected settings untouched.

It worked before and now it doesn't. Sign-in sessions can expire. Reconnect the connector and sign in again. In Claude this shows as a Reconnect button next to Ad Badger in your connectors list.

What happens to your data

The connection is read-only. It can look at your advertising data, and it cannot change anything in your account. The Badger is a watcher, not a meddler.

Ad Badger never uses your advertising data to train AI models. What Claude or ChatGPT do with your conversations is governed by the data settings on your own Claude or ChatGPT account.
